Propulsid, prescribed for the treatment of nighttime heartburn, has been associated with a number of serious cardiovascular side effects, including structural heart defects, cardiac arrest, sudden death and congestive heart failure.  To date, over 340 such cases have been reported, including 80 deaths.

The drug Rezulin, used primarily to treat individuals with adult-onset or Type 2 diabetes, has been associated with liver damage and in certain instances sudden liver failure.

Both Propulsid and Rezulin were recently removed from the market by their manufactures at the request of the food and Drug Administration.
